Recovery Walks

The Walk
Participants are paired with shelter dogs for guided group walk focused on connection, presence, and shared experience. No special dog-handling experience is required.
“Sometimes moving forward starts with simply taking the next step.”

Enrichment & Leash Skills
Through simple enrichment activities and shelter-approved leash skills, participants practice patience, consistency, communication, and trust while providing dogs with positive interaction and engagement.
“Trust is built through patience, consistency, and connection.”

Reflection & Connection
Each walk creates a space to slow down, reflect, and connect the experience to recovery. Guided conversation explores themes like trust, patience, gratitude, resilience, honesty, accountability and new beginnings-helping participants recognize progress is often built one step at a time.
“Sometimes the life beside us teaches us something about rebuilding our own.”
Why Recovery Walks?
Recovery is about more than what we stop doing. It is about rebuilding connection, purpose, trust, and a sense of belonging. Recovery Walks creates a place to practice those things through service-while giving shelter dogs meaningful time, attention, and enrichment.
